Formation of the Committee of Relatives of the Disappeared

Formation of the Committee of Relatives of Disappeared Women in Ayacucho, precursor of ANFASEP.

In September 1983, several women, among them Angelica Mendoza de Ascarza, Teodosia Layme Cuya, Antonia Zaga Huaña and others, joined together and formed the Committee of Relatives of the Disappeared. This group later, in 1985, took the name of Asociación Nacional de Familiares de Secuestrados-Detenidos-Desaparecidos en zonas bajo Estado de emergencia (ANFASEP) (National Association of Relatives of the Kidnapped-Detainees-Disappeared in Areas under State of Emergency). The main objective was to locate their missing relatives, dead or alive.
