Statements by the Attorney General on the PCP-SL

The Prosecutor of the Nation, Miguel Cavero Egúzquiza, made controversial statements on the television program Panorama about the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL). In his statements, Cavero Egúzquiza affirmed that the PCP-SL has its own 'patriotic sensibility' and that, in its own way, 'they want the best for Peru'. These statements generated controversy in the context of the anti-subversive struggle taking place in the country, particularly in Ayacucho. It is worth mentioning that previously, in June of the same year, the same Prosecutor had proposed a dialogue with the PCP-SL.
