Murder of Francisco Marengo Vicente

Francisco Marengo Vicente was murdered on August 29, 1983 in the Lauricocha hacienda by the PCP-SL, as part of their campaign against landowners in the region. This crime was part of the Shining Path's strategy of eliminating "gamonales" to establish their territorial control.

Francisco Marengo Vicente was assassinated on August 29, 1983 in the Lauricocha hacienda, located in the district of Jesús, province of Lauricocha, department of Huánuco. This assassination occurred in the context of the PCP-SL's campaign against the so-called "gamonales" or landowners, as part of its "anti-feudal and anti-landlord" discourse. The event was similar to other selective murders that occurred in 1983 in neighboring districts, where villagers were victimized for owning extensive land and cattle. This type of action was part of the Shining Path strategy of eliminating authorities and people with property in order to create a "power vacuum" in the areas where they sought to establish their territorial control.
