Murder of residents of Uchuraccay
In August 1983, the PCP-SL made a bloody incursion into Uchuraccay as part of a series of revenge attacks against this community. This was one of three Shining Path incursions in 1983 that resulted in the death of approximately one third of the population of Uchuraccay.
In August 1983, the PCP-SL made a bloody incursion into the community of Uchuraccay as part of their revenge against this population that had participated in the assassination of journalists in January of the same year. This was one of three incursions that the Shining Path carried out against Uchuraccay in 1983. The PCP-SL targeted this community because of its resistance and opposition to the subversive organization. As a result of the violent action mainly by the PCP-SL and also by the rondas of neighboring communities and towns, 135 of the 470 community members registered in the 1981 census were killed, that is, one third of the population of Uchuraccay.
