Murder of 5 community members in Huaychao

In August 1983, the PCP-SL raided the community of Huaychao, killing 5 community members. This attack was part of a series of reprisals by the PCP-SL against the communities of the Huanta highlands that had organized against them. Huaychao had been the scene in January 1983 of the first peasant reaction against Sendero, when community members assassinated seven Shining Path members. The PCP-SL went on a rampage against Uchuraccay and Huaychao during 1983, carrying out multiple bloody raids in these communities as revenge for their resistance.
