The second Shining Path PCP attack on Uchuraccay occurred at midnight on July 16, 1983, after the conclusion of the feast of the Virgin of Carmen. About fifty members of the PCP-SL entered the town through the upper part of Tikllaqocha, where the house of one of the party's stewards, Alejandro Perez Garagondo, was located. The attackers shouted threats of extermination against the Uchuraccaínos. Among the victims were Marcial Pérez Rimachi, husband of Martina Gavilán Huamán, who was killed in the middle of the feast of the Virgin of Carmen. It was not until the following day, July 19, that the military arrived and authorized the burial of the dead.
