Second attack on Uchuraccay

Second attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the community of Uchuraccay on July 16, 1983, in which approximately 20 people were killed. This was one of three Shining Path attacks against this community during 1983.

On July 16, 1983, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out its second bloody attack against the community of Uchuraccay. In this raid, approximately 20 people were killed. This attack was part of a series of three PCP-SL raids against Uchuraccay in 1983, in retaliation for the murder of journalists and hikers in January of that year. The community of Uchuraccay was subjected to systematic violence that resulted in the death of 135 people out of a total of 470 community members registered in the 1981 census, that is, one third of its population.
