Arrest and disappearance of four Putis community members
Four community members from Putis were detained by the military, taken by helicopter and disappeared.
On July 16, 1983, military personnel detained Putis community members Oswaldo Fernández Cusiche, Maximiliana Quispe Fernández, Vidal Farfán Fernández and Víctor Fernández Huayllasco. They were taken to a helicopter with an unknown destination. They are still missing. The incident was denounced by the Association for Human Rights (Aprodeh). This operation was one of several carried out in 1983 in the high Andean communities of Huanta.
