Enforced disappearance of Arquímedes Ascarza Mendoza
Enforced disappearance of Arquímedes Ascarza after detention by military in Huamanga
In the early morning of July 2, 1983, combined Army and Police forces broke into the home of Arquímedes Ascarza Mendoza in the Ciudad Libertad de las Américas Human Settlement. They violently detained him and took him to Los Cabitos Barracks in a military truck. Although a non-commissioned officer delivered a note written by Arquímedes on July 15 confirming his detention and torture, the military authorities denied his capture. He was last seen being loaded onto a helicopter with 14 other people. He remains missing.
