Chiara Massacres
A series of massacres occurred in the district of Chiara between July and September 1983, where the PCP-SL assassinated a total of 30 community members in the towns of Sachabamba and Bellavista. Later, in April 1984, the army executed 32 villagers in Huarapite.
In July and September 1983, massacres occurred in the district of Chiara, province of Huamanga, Ayacucho. In July 1983, the PCP-SL murdered 20 community members in Sachabamba, Chiara. In September of the same year, the PCP-SL murdered 10 community members in Bellavista, Chiara. In April 1984, members of the army murdered 32 villagers in Huarapite, Chiara. These massacres were part of the generalized violence that affected the rural area of Huamanga during 1983-1984, the period of greatest intensity of the internal armed conflict after the entry of the Armed Forces.
