Clash between PCP-SL and ronderos of Vilcashuamán

In July 1983, there was an armed confrontation between columns of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso and ronderos from Vilcashuamán. This event took place in the context of the generalized violence that characterized 1983 in the area, with the highest number of deaths in the region. The confrontation was part of the response of some communities against Shining Path domination, although in the provinces of Cangallo and Vilcashuamán the PCP-SL support networks persisted longer than in other areas such as Huancasancos. This type of confrontation intensified after the army's entry in January 1983 and the rebellion of communities such as Sacsamarca.
