On June 19, 1983, a contingent of approximately 30 PCP-SL militants took the town of Moya, in the province of Huancavelica. During the raid, the subversives harassed the local police post. They called on the district's population to join their armed struggle. After these actions, the contingent left for the nearby district of Vilca, which was their main base of operations in the area.
