SUTEP National Strike

On June 14, 1983, the Unitary Union of Education Workers of Peru (SUTEP) carried out a national strike that was described as successful. This mobilization took place in a context of growing social conflict and political violence in the country. The teachers' strike was one of the multiple union protests that characterized that period of Fernando Belaunde Terry's government. The stoppage demonstrated SUTEP's capacity to convene at the national level.
