In the early morning of May 21, 1983, an unspecified number of hikers, men and women, from the "lower part" (Hualla, Tiquihua, Canaria, etc.), led by "comrade Omar", prepared an attack against Sacsamarca. When the hikers were in the Pallqa annex, one of the community members they had arrested managed to escape and arrived at Sacsamarca, where a police major was on an inspection mission with a group of troops. The Major organized the population to respond to the attack. Three police officers, plus approximately 20 people went to the encounter, and the confrontation took place on the heights of Sacsamarca. Several hikers were killed, among them "comrades Omar and Andres", while 11 people died on the other side, among them a Sinchi named Dueñas. After the confrontation, a police base composed of Sinchis was installed in Sacsamarca.
