Clash in Sacsamarca left eleven dead on the side of law enforcement forces

In the early morning of May 21, 1983, an unspecified number of hikers led by comrade Omar prepared the attack on Sacsamarca. A community member managed to escape and alerted a police major who was on an inspection mission. The population was organized to respond. At ten o'clock in the morning the confrontation took place on the heights of Sacsamarca. The hikers were killed, among them comrades Omar and Andres. Eleven people died on the other side, among them a Sinchi surnamed Dueñas. Twenty subversives were taken prisoner.
