Murder of 4 community members in Huaychao

In May 1983, the PCP-SL assassinated 4 community members in Huaychao in retaliation for the community's resistance against the subversive organization. This attack was part of a series of bloody incursions against the communities of the Huanta highlands.

In May 1983, the PCP-SL raided the community of Huaychao, killing 4 community members. This attack was part of a series of reprisals by the PCP-SL against the communities of the Huanta highlands that had organized against them. The community of Huaychao had led the first peasant reaction against Shining Path in January 1983, assassinating seven Shining Path members together with community members from Macabamba. This act had been publicly praised by President Fernando Belaunde as an example of patriotism. The May assassination was part of a campaign of revenge by the PCP-SL against these rebel communities.
