In May 1983, a contingent of 200 PCP-SL militants entered the district of Páucar. During this incursion, the subversives harangued the assembled population and threatened the local authorities. This event occurred in a context where the area had not yet been declared in a state of emergency and the PCP-SL continued its strategy of controlling the countryside by assassinating local authorities and landowners. The action was part of the territorial expansion of the PCP-SL in the Pasco region during 1983.
