A successful 24-hour national strike was held on March 10, 1983 in rejection of the Belaunde Terry government's economic policies, being the largest work stoppage in two and a half years of government.

On March 10, 1983, a 24-hour national strike was held in rejection of the economic policies of Fernando Belaunde Terry's government. This strike was successful and represented the largest work stoppage that had taken place in the two and a half years of the Belaunde government. The protest reflected the widespread discontent with the economic measures implemented by the government. The strike took place in a context of growing social conflict and political violence in the country.
