PCP-SL kills civil guard; police retaliation leaves economist dead
Civil guard Edwin Heredia Sotomayor was murdered by the PCP-SL two blocks from the Ninth Police Station of the Civil Guard in Huamanga as he was leaving work. A few days later, economist Flavio Quispe Huamán died of a bullet to the head. The murder, which occurred in unclear circumstances, was interpreted by the local population as part of the police retaliation for the guard's death.
