In March 1983, a Civil Guard post was installed in Illahuasi, as part of the State's strategy to intensify its presence in the rural area of Andahuaylas in the face of the advance of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. This installation was part of a broader process of establishing new police posts in the area, which sought to counteract the control that the PCP-SL had achieved over a large part of the rural area up to that time. The installation of these posts took place in the context of the expansion of the presence of the Armed Forces in Andahuaylas since 1983, after the installation of the Political Military Command.
