Sacsamarca rebellion against the PCP-SL

Sacsamarca population rebelled against the PCP-SL by murdering local leaders

During the carnivals between February 15 and 17, 1983, the population of Sacsamarca rebelled against the PCP-SL. Taking advantage of the fact that the Shining Pathists would be partying and getting drunk, a group of villagers assaulted the homes of two local PCP-SL leaders: Elio and Wilfredo, killing them. They captured their followers and took the place where they were storing weapons. Some PCP-SL members escaped and arrived in Huancasancos to report on the rebellion.
