Sacsamarca uprising

An uprising of Sacsamarca villagers against the PCP-SL in February 1983, in which the villagers, tired of Shining Path abuses, got drunk and killed the Shining Path commanders with stabs and stones.

In February 1983, the Sacsamarca uprising against the PCP-SL took place. The villagers, fed up with the abuses of the Shining Path commanders, decided to rebel against them. In an act of resistance, the villagers got the Shining Path militants drunk and later stabbed and stoned them to death. This event represents one of the first violent reactions of peasant communities against the presence and abuses of the PCP-SL in the region.
