Trial of imprisoned Iquichanos

The villagers of Uchuraccay held a communal trial of fourteen Iquichan peasants captured the day before, suspected of belonging to the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. The trial was conducted by Lieutenant Governor Fortunato Gavilan in the town square.

The day after the capture of fourteen Iquichan peasants suspected of belonging to or supporting the PCP-Sendero Luminoso, the villagers of Uchuraccay gathered in the square to judge the prisoners. The trial was carried out by taking the detainees one by one to the square to testify before the community. Approximately at 2 o'clock in the afternoon they finished the trial with the prisoners, being Lieutenant Governor Fortunato Gavilán the one who directed the interrogations. Later, the wife, mother and sister of the guide Juan Argumedo were also judged, who were absolved after taking an oath before the crucifix of the rod, maximum symbol of the community authority, warning them not to inform anyone of the death of the journalists under threat of death.
