On January 23, 1983, a patrol of Sinchis arrived in the community of Uchuraccay carrying food. During this visit, the Sinchis were surprised by the organization adopted by the community for their defense. This visit occurred two days after the killing of seven PCP-SL members in the communities of Huaychao and Macabamba on January 21, and in the context that five PCP-SL members had been killed in Uchuraccay around the same time. The visit took place three days before the tragic murder of the eight journalists on January 26, 1983.
