Killing of seven PCP-SL members in Huaychao and Macabamba
On January 21, 1983, seven members of the Shining Path PCP were killed in the communities of Huaychao and Macabamba, province of Huanta. This event was part of the first multi-communal peasant rebellion against the Shining Path in the Ayacucho highlands.
On January 21, 1983, less than a month after the intervention of the armed forces in the department of Ayacucho and the establishment of the Marine Infantry in the province of Huanta, seven members of the PCP-SL were killed in the communities of Huaychao and Macabamba. This event occurred in the context of the first multi-communal rebellion against the Shining Path PCP, led by Ayacucho communities in the highlands. On January 23, the Political Military Chief of the Emergency Zone, General Roberto Clemente Noel Moral, stated in a press conference: "There is a very significant response from the Ayacucho people to banish terrorism". Around the same time, five members of the PCP-SL were also killed in Uchuraccay.
