Attempt to knock down ENTEL tower in Huancayo
A subversive group of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attempted to demolish a microwave tower of ENTEL located 20 km from Huancayo. The attack was part of the escalation of violent actions against strategic infrastructure in the region.
On January 18, 1983, a group of subversives of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attempted to demolish a microwave tower of the National Telecommunications Company (ENTEL) located 20 kilometers from Huancayo. This attack was part of a series of violent actions that Shining Path militants carried out against public and private infrastructure in the Mantaro valley. The attack on the ENTEL tower took place in the context of an escalation of violence that included theft of weapons from law enforcement agencies and attacks on strategic installations. Two days after this attempt, on January 20, PCP-SL militants made their first armed public appearance in the dining room of the National University of Central Peru.
