Strike ordered by PCP-SL in Ayacucho

The PCP-SL ordered an armed strike on January 8, 1983 in Ayacucho, days after the Armed Forces took control of the department. This event was part of the escalation of political violence in the region.

The Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) ordered an armed strike on January 8, 1983 in the department of Ayacucho. This strike took place in a context of increasing political violence, just days after the Armed Forces assumed internal control of the department on December 31, 1982. General EP Clemente Noel Moral had declared on January 1 that the Peruvian Army would remain only two months in Ayacucho to "exterminate terrorist outbreaks". The strike was part of the PCP-SL's strategy of confrontation against the Peruvian State and the military forces recently deployed in the area.
