Slaughter of villagers in Chaupihuasi

Killing of almost the entire population of Chaupihuasi by the Shining Path, including children and their teacher.

The Shining Path perpetrated a massacre of almost all the inhabitants of the village of Chaupihuasi. Peasants were killed without distinction of age, including 14 adult peasants, 10 children and older pupils of 7 and 8 years old who died together with their teacher at the school. Only very young children between 3 and 4 years old survived and managed to hide. The testimony describes the brutality of the attack and the uncertainty about the fate of the bodies, especially of the infants and young children.
