Murder of mayor and rape of his wife in Vilcashuamán
PCP-SL rapes and murders mayor's wife as reprisal in Vilcashuamán, Ayacucho
The mayor of a community had been threatened with death by the PCP-SL so that he would resign his post. When he refused, the Shining Path members entered the mayor's house, arrested his wife and murdered her. Her body showed signs of having been raped. The case is evidence of sexual violence and murder as a form of retaliation and punishment against authorities who did not bow to the PCP-SL.
