Uchuraccay community members kill five members of the PCP-SL

In mid-January 1983, Uchuraccay community members killed five members of the PCP-SL as part of an inter-communal self-defense rebellion in the Huanta highlands. This was in response to the previous assassination of the community president by the Shining Path.

In the midst of an escalation of violence unleashed by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso, which included the assassination of community president Alejandro Huamán in late 1982, Uchuraccay villagers killed five members of the PCP-SL in mid-January 1983. This event was part of a broader inter-communal rebellion in the Huanta highlands, where diverse peasant communities organized for self-defense and took justice into their own hands. During the second and third week of January 1983, in various villages in the Huanta highlands, the villagers led by their authorities captured and killed a total of 24 PCP-SL militants. This was part of the first inter-communal rebellion against the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso.
