Peasants assassinate 24 PCP-SL militants in the highlands of Huanta
Between the second and third week of January 1983, community members from the highlands of Huanta captured and killed 24 PCP-SL militants in different villages. This was part of the first inter-communal peasant rebellion against the Shining Path.
During the second and third week of January 1983, in various towns in the highlands of Huanta, community members led by their authorities captured and killed 24 militant members of the PCP-SL. This event occurred in the context of an inter-communal rebellion against Shining Path, after the PCP-SL had assassinated several presidents and authorities of peasant communities in the area. In Uchuraccay specifically, the villagers killed five members of the PCP-SL in mid-January. These murders were part of the first organized peasant rebellion against the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso in the punas of Huanta province.
