Murder of 12 people in Vilcanchos

In January 1983, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso killed 12 people in Vilcanchos, Victor Fajardo, as part of its strategy of territorial control and elimination of supposed enemies in the area.

In January 1983, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered 12 people in the town of Vilcanchos, province of Víctor Fajardo. This event occurred in the context of an escalation of violence in the area, where the PCP-SL intensified its actions against authorities and villagers accused of being enemies of their cause. The event took place shortly before the Umasi massacre, where about 55 hikers died in a confrontation with a military patrol. This collective murder is part of the PCP-SL's strategy to "beat the countryside" by eliminating supposed enemies and establishing its territorial control in the region.
