In 1983, there was an assassination attempt against the governor of Aucayacu at the door of his house. This attack was part of a series of selective actions by the PCP-SL against local authorities in the area. The attack was part of the period of consolidation of Shining Path control in the areas surrounding the town of Aucayacu, prior to the major attacks against Civil Guard posts that would occur in 1984.
