Kidnapping and presumed murder of Silvio Chávez Soto by PCP-SL

Silvio Chávez Soto, secretary of the Uchuraccay community, was kidnapped in mid-1983 and presumably killed by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. He had previously filed complaints against the local Shining Path leader for stealing a horse.

Silvio Chávez Soto, secretary of the Uchuraccay community, was kidnapped around mid-1983 and presumably killed by the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path. Before the kidnapping, Chavez Soto had filed complaints against Severino Huascar Morales Ccente, who had been responsible for the PCP-SL in the area, for the theft of a horse. On the day of the killing of the journalists (January 26, 1983), Chavez Soto was at a meeting of community authorities where these complaints were being discussed. It was Silvio Chávez Soto who ordered the killing of the journalists, convinced that he had captured terrorists.
