This base was added to another established in Millpo, Paucarbamba district, from where counter-subversive patrols and operations were carried out.
At the end of 1983, the Army installed a counter-subversive base in the provincial capital of Churcampa, as part of the military strategy to counteract the actions of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the region. This base was added to another previously installed in the locality of Millpo, in the high zone of the district of Paucarbamba. From these counter-subversive bases, military patrols would go out to the communities and towns, carrying out operations of detention and interrogation of people suspected of collaborating with the subversion. The installation of these military bases coincided with an increase in violence in the province, including arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances and extrajudicial executions.
