Law enforcement casualties in 1983
In 1983, 13 law enforcement personnel died in the internal armed conflict: 4 from the Armed Forces and 9 from the Police Forces. These casualties represented 0.8% of the total number of law enforcement fatalities during the period 1980-2000.
During 1983, Peruvian law enforcement agencies suffered 13 fatal casualties as a result of the internal armed conflict, according to information submitted by the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior to the CVR. Of these casualties, 4 corresponded to the Armed Forces and 9 to the Police Forces. These deaths represented 0.8% of the total number of law enforcement casualties during the entire period of the conflict (1980-2000). Police casualties were mainly the result of individual attacks (annihilations) or subversive attacks against isolated police posts, while armed forces casualties generally occurred during patrolling operations in the countryside.
