Death of worker and student in Huallaga

In 1983, in the Huallaga basin, the PCP-SL began its violent actions by assassinating a Ministry of Agriculture worker and a high school student accused of supporting the police, marking the beginning of a spiral of violence that would last until the mid-1990s.

In the Huallaga basin, in the jungle, the spiral of violence began in these years and continued uninterruptedly until the second half of the 1990s with a death toll of several thousand people. The violent actions began in 1983 with the death of a Ministry of Agriculture worker and a high school student accused of supporting the police. This event marked the beginning of systematic violence in the Huallaga area. At the end of that year, the PCP-SL attacked the premises of the Coca Reduction and Eradication Project in Alto Huallaga (CORAH).
