On October 18, 1982, hooded PCP-SL militants carrying firearms broke into the house of Teofilo Rojas, lieutenant governor of Chinche Tingo. This murder occurred in the context of meetings of villagers encouraged by the authorities to define a position against the subversive incursions. The assassination of Teofilo Rojas provoked the immediate resignation of the other local authorities. This was part of the PCP-SL strategy of creating a power vacuum through death threats or the "annihilation" of political and local authorities in those places where they began their territorial settlement.
