Expulsion of PCP-SL militants from Uchuraccay

In October 1982, Uchuraccay villagers expelled PCP-SL militants who were trying to establish a Popular Women's School, and burned a red flag placed by the subversive organization. In retaliation, the PCP-SL assassinated community president Alejandro Huamán weeks later.

During the first week of October 1982, the villagers of Uchuraccay expelled "Martín" and five other members of the PCP-SL who were trying to establish a Popular School for Women in the community. On October 7, during the feast of the Virgin of the Rosary, the PCP-SL placed a red flag on one of the hills of Uchuraccay, which was taken down and burned by Alejandro Huamán, president of the community. This expulsion was led by the community president and marked the beginning of Uchuraccay's resistance against Shining Path. In retaliation for these acts, in late November or early December 1982, the PCP-SL assassinated Alejandro Huamán.
