Arrest of 5 community members by Sinchis in Santo Tomás de Pata
The Sinchis arrested 5 community members from Santo Tomás de Pata accusing them of belonging to the PCP-SL after a Shining Path attack. They were tortured for several days and then released as no charges were found.
In October 1982, the PCP-SL carried out an attack in Santo Tomás de Pata, looting merchants' stores and destroying machinery and equipment. In response to this attack, a few days later, the police 'Sinchis' raided the area for the first time with the objective of searching for the Shining Path column. During their persecution mission, the Sinchis detained 5 community members of Santo Tomás de Pata, accusing them of belonging to the PCP-SL. After several days of torture, the community members were released as no charges were found against them.
