Attack in Santo Tomás de Pata

Incursion of the PCP-SL in Santo Tomás de Pata where they looted stores and destroyed machinery. The action provoked the first incursion of the Sinchis in the area, who detained and tortured 5 innocent community members.

In October 1982, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an incursion in Santo Tomás de Pata, Angaraes province. During this action, the subversives looted merchants' stores to steal supplies and destroyed machinery and equipment. In response to this attack, a few days later the police 'Sinchis' raided the area for the first time with the objective of searching for the Shining Path column. In their persecution mission, the Sinchis detained 5 community members of Santo Tomás de Pata, accusing them of belonging to the PCP-SL. After several days of torture, the community members were released as no charges were found against them.
