Assault on Erapata police post
Assault by the PCP-SL on the Erapata police post in Vilcabamba, Cuzco, resulting in the death of a police guard and the destruction of the post.
On September 27, 1982, there was an assault on the Erapata police post, in the district of Vilcabamba, province of La Convención, department of Cuzco. According to the official police communiqué, 27 armed terrorist elements participated and destroyed the police post. In the attack, the guard Luis Chávez Ordóñez was killed and Corporal Manuel Yataco Ramírez was seriously wounded. This attack was part of the PCP-SL strategy of attacking police posts in rural areas during the period 1980-1982.
