Murder of Nieto Cisneros brothers in Matara

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated the Nieto Cisneros brothers in Matara, Accocro, in September 1982. This event preceded the subsequent razing of Matara by the Peruvian Army in May 1983.

In September 1982, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated the Nieto Cisneros brothers in the town of Matara, district of Accocro, province of Huamanga. This event was part of the initial strategy of the PCP-SL to eliminate local authorities and people considered enemies of their revolutionary project. Subsequently, in May 1983, Matara would be the object of a razing by the Peruvian Army, where they burned houses, assassinated, tortured and disappeared approximately 25 people. The community of Matara was caught between Shining Path violence and indiscriminate military repression.
