Third attack to the police post of Vilcashuamán
PCP-SL attack on the Vilcashuamán police post that left seven policemen dead and several wounded, the most serious of the three attacks perpetrated against this post in 1982.
On August 22, 1982, the third and most devastating attack against the Vilcashuamán police post took place. A group of armed hikers bombed the police post, resulting in the death of seven policemen and several wounded. This was the worst attack on the Vilcashuamán police post since the attacks on March 31 and July 25 of the same year. The morning after the attack, the national press arrived in Vilcashuamán along with the Minister of the Interior Gagliardi, the General of the General Command Humberto Catter and the Chief of the General Command, evidencing the seriousness of the event.
