Hikers attack on police post in Vilcashuamán leaves seven policemen dead
A group of armed hikers entered Vilcashuamán and bombarded the police post all night. Seven policemen were killed and several wounded. This was the worst attack that the police post would suffer after the attacks perpetrated on March 31 and July 25 of the same year. The municipal building and the police post were completely destroyed. The following morning, President Fernando Belaúnde arrived with an entourage, consulting the population about the installation of a Sinchi base. The result was the installation of a military base in Vilcashuamán in 1983.
