Attacks on Guardia Civil posts in Orurillo and Umachiri
Members of the PCP-SL attacked Civil Guard posts in Orurillo and Umachiri (Melgar, Puno) on August 18, 1982. After five hours of confrontations, seven policemen were killed.
On August 18, 1982, members of the PCP-SL simultaneously attacked the Civil Guard posts of Orurillo and Umachiri, in the province of Melgar, department of Puno. The confrontations lasted for five hours. As a result of these attacks, seven policemen were killed. After the attack, the Minister of the Interior, General FAP (r) José Gagliardi Schiaffino, and the head of the Civil Guard, General GC Humberto Catter Arredondo, arrived in Vilcashuamán.
