Death of Teófilo Pacheco Quispe

Teófilo Pacheco Quispe, a member of the MRTA (Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru), died on August 9, 1982 in a confrontation with the police in the district of Surquillo, Lima. This event occurred in the context of a growing wave of political violence in the country, during the month in which the government had declared a state of emergency in Lima and Callao for sixty days. The armed confrontation with police forces resulted in the death of Pacheco Quispe, who was identified as a militant of the subversive organization MRTA.
