Attack against Superior Court and Radio Onda Azul
Attack by the PCP-SL against the Superior Court of Justice of Puno and the antenna of Radio Onda Azul, a Catholic Church radio station that promoted citizen awareness against violence.
In August 1982, the PCP-SL carried out an attack against the Superior Court of Justice of Puno and the antenna of Onda Azul radio station, which belonged to the Catholic Church. Radio Onda Azul, created in 1958 and owned by the Diocese of Puno, actively contributed to generate a civic conscience that confronted violence. Because of its pro-communist stance, Onda Azul's facilities suffered multiple attacks that were attributed to paramilitary groups, including this attack in August 1982 and subsequent attacks on August 3, 1986 and July 3 and 5, 1988. The radio station had one of the most powerful stations in the area and broadcast programs in Spanish, Quechua and Aymara.
