In August 1982, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an attack against the antenna of Onda Azul radio station, belonging to the Bishopric of Puno. This attack was part of a series of violent actions directed against Catholic Church institutions in the department of Puno. In the same month there was also an attack against the Superior Court of Justice of Puno. Radio Onda Azul was owned by the Catholic Church and the attack was part of the initial period of the internal armed conflict in the region, when the PCP-SL directed its actions mainly against public and religious institutions.
