Destruction of Vilcashuamán power plant

On July 31, 1982, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso executed a simultaneous sabotage against the electrical infrastructure in Vilcashuamán. In this coordinated action, both the Vischongo mini-hydroelectric plant and the Vilcashuamán power plant were destroyed. This attack was part of the Shining Path strategy of sabotaging public infrastructure, which was considered an important target in their campaign of violence. The destruction of these electrical installations was framed in the context of multiple actions by the PCP-SL during 1982, which included assaults on police posts, raids on towns and assassinations of authorities.
